How do I get pictures to STAY PUT in a Word doc?

Unlike Pagemaker, there seems to be no way to get a picture to stay in the
place it's put, in a Word doc. As I change the doc, move other pictures
around, etc., the pictures in the Doc can fly all over the place. Is there a
way to put a picture in a Word doc, and get it to stay where it is supposed
to on the page, and make the text flow where it will, but the picture STAYS
PUT ON THE PAGE!!!!! I've worked with MS Word since 1984, and used to be an
expert. This one's got me stumped.

In a word, No... Although positioning of graphics can be controlled.

PageMaker & Word represent two completely different types of software
design. PM is a *page* layout program, Word is a text processor which -
despite UI appearances to the contrary - has no page structure. All inserted
objects are anchored to the text flow in some way & therefore shift with the
text to which they are attached.

If you have any specific issues based on the information there don't
hesitate to ask - but specify what version of the program you're using.

Hello,

Try this: Right click on your picture to bring up a menu box. Choose "Format
Picture". Choose the tab at the top named "Layout Table". Then click on
"Advanced" (in the lower right corner). Make the "Horizontal alignment"
something like "Center" relative to "Margin" and the "Vertical alignment"
"top" relative to "Page". In options, unclick "Move object with text" and
"allow overlap". Click on "lock anchor". Click OK and OK again. I hope this
helps.

Not sure which version you are using now, if XP or later you might check
tools> Options. In XP or 2003 look on the General tab, there is an option
box for " Automatically create drawing canvas for autoshapes". Unchecking
this option makes Word treat pictures and autosahpes more like teh earlier
versions.

I am not sure where this option is located in 2007, if it still is available.
