how do I get rid of a deleted record? It won't go away!!

I deleted a child record in a table that has a parent record in another
table, but the record keeps showing up with #deleted in all the fields no
matter how many times I delete it and refresh the tables. When I run a query
matching the parent table to the child table on that record number it still
matches the child record to the parent record but the child record still
shows #deleted in all it's fields. If I run the query looking for the
matching record number in the child record it comes back and says the record
is deleted, but it still won't go away! HELP!
