Your solution was perfect. I deleted all the pdfmaker files and the problem
went away. Many thanks

I have 1 residual problem. Some time after loading XP SP2 and Office 2003,
The PC started opening windows installer on severy boot. It's only a
nuisance but adds a minute to an already excessive boot time. Any thoughts
on fixing this?

Thanks again

I don't use winXP (you're writing about booting up the pc???).

If no one can answer here, you could try one of the newsgroups dedicated to
Windows problems--or even search google (most times you can find the answer
there--if you can search on the correct terms!!).

Try re-registering Excel.

1) Start>Run "excel.exe /unregserver"(no quotes)>OK.
2) Start>Run "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.

See the space between exe and /regserver

You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe.
In that case Start>Run "C:\yourpath\excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)>OK.

Thanks for your input. Dave's suggestion worked and I now think it was
related to trying to use Acrobat 5 with 2003. Deleting the pdfmaker files
did the trick. Also, I've now got Acrobat 6 and this works fine

I was posting in reference to your "residual" problem, not the original
question about "compile error etc."

Sorry for my misunderstanding.

I tried your suggestion but regret that it made no difference.

I've just been reading some data on a Microsoft site that implies the
problem is a false indicatiom / known XP issue. I guess I just wait for the
official update

Thankyou anyhow for your input

Harvey
