How do I get rid of MAILTO: ?

W

wendy

I'm dragging email addresses from outlook express onto a
word document and every email now says mailto:[email protected]

I want to just have (e-mail address removed) and not the mailto: part.
I did this last year without mailto showing up. Any
ideas? I have 2000 emails to go. These are part of a
customer receipt and not in my address book.

Thanks!

Probably too late, but:

I don't know how you can change the way you are doing this to make things
better (unchecking the associated autoformat/autoformat as you type options
in Word does not seem to make much difference) but what I would probably do
is:
a. stop now
b. save your document (this is a backup copy you can go back to if anything
goes wrong)
c. save your document as .rtf format and close it
d. ensure Word Tools|Options|General|Confirm conversions at open is checked
e. re-open your document. When you are asked what format it is in, choose
Text Only, not the RTF format
f. Use Edit|Replace to replace mailto: by nothing throughout the document
g. save and close the file
h. re-open it and choose the RTF format.
i. if the process has worked and the mailto: s are no longer there and
everything else is OK, continue dragging/dropping the e-mail addresses and
repeat (b)-(h) when you have finished.
