How do I get rid of the Office Ribbon?

P

pfkorman

I just started using Office 2007 and the Ribbon is by far, the most
user-hostile feature I've ever seen. How can I permanently get rid of it and
send it to the trashcan where it belongs?

J

JoAnn Paules

By uninstalling the software. If you prefer there are some third party
add-ins that can mimic the old style menus.

<sigh> you did try the trial version BEFORE buying? As an ADVANCED Excel
user and a medium Word user and a Systems Accountant I can tell you that you
only need to persevere for a very short time before becoming accustomed to
it. In my Systems Accountant role I can tell you that most users use a small
number of commands frequently - these can be added to the QAT (Quick Access
Toolbar). The infrequent commands are found more intuitively in the Ribbon
than previous versions. (And I've been using Office since Office 95)
You CAN get rid of the Ribbon, but only by the use of third-party software.
I suggest you persevere a little longer and learn it first.

You have two choices - pay to buy third party add-ins to mimic the old style
menus or stop using Office 2007. I picked the latter option for several
reasons, after using the trial version for several weeks. I am also working
on transitioning to OpenOffice, since MS plans to use that Ribbon in more
applications in the future.

I do agree wholeheartedly with your characterization of the Ribbon. You may
want to send in your comments to MS as well.

Also, here's a link to Jensen Harris' blog. He is the one who led the team
that designed the Ribbon. JH claims that the Ribbon has been widely accepted!

BTW, I've been an Office apps user for many years now.

Utter nonsense. You would probably like to be using Wordperfect keystrokes
ca. 1988....because they are familiar.

Utter nonsense.
That describes your comments very well, Telstar.
You would probably like to be using Wordperfect keystrokes ca. 1988....because >they are familiar.
What a juvenile, useless and baseless comment! As I noted in my earlier
post, I've been using MS apps for many years now. There are MANY other long
time Office users who see no value in the Ribbon interface. There are plenty
of posts here as well as on several other boards which echo the exact same
sentiments.

Tsk, tsk, Milly! As rude as ever. I am certainly glad I'm not your co-worker
or neighbor.

Why do you feel the need to be rude to those who don't share your
viewpoints? Have you considered seeking psychiatric therapy?

BTW, I notice on the other thread, where you levied personal attacks, you
were not able to counter the facts I posted. Truth be told, I'm not surprised
one bit.

Ah, a simple statement of fact and who starts the personal attacks/insinuations?

I merely observed that any time anyone has anything negative to say about the Office Ribbon, you are right there adding your opinion to it. I have not seen one thread yet in this forum where a negative comment is posted about the ribbon without finding your post appended.

My observation (yet to be refuted) is that of the "many" posts about the ribbon being unusable, your comments show up more than any other individual (not scientific, just observational).

Personal attack? Rude? tsk - methinks a visit to dictionary.com is a good idea.

You do, Milly. You are easily among the rudest posters I've seen here.

"I merely observed that any time anyone has anything negative to say about
the Office Ribbon, you are right there adding your opinion to it. I have not
seen one thread yet in this forum where a negative comment is posted about

<sigh> It's really quite simple, Milly. Too many times when someone posts
that they don't like the Ribbon, there are some rabid Ribbon fans who start
going at them. I merely let the OPs know that there are many others who agree
with their opinion and/or what recourse I chose.

OTOH, I don't recall seeing a post from you that isn't rude, arrogant or
supercilious. This isn't the first time.
Personal attack? Rude? tsk - methinks a visit to dictionary.com is a good idea.
LOL! In your case, a good, hard look in the mirror is an excellent idea.
You'd do well to visit dictionary.com and look up some definitions.
