how do I get rid of this dashed line at the bottom of the page?

I am using word 2007. When I make three consecutive asteriks (***), Word
will automatically inset a dashed line, a page break of sorts. Now, I would
like to get rid of these breaks, as I am trying to edit a document and they
are cutting right through the middle of key parts of text. I have tried to
highlight them and delete them but to no avail. Also, how to I turn of this
setting? I wasn't even trying to use the series of asteriks for page break
to begin with, but to seperate sections of a document.

Thank you for your assistance.

To turn off this function - Word Options > Proofing > Autocorrect Options >
Autoformat as you type > uncheck 'border lines'. You can to advantage turn
off much of the stuff on that page.
