how do i get rid of what appears to be a shift lock in word?

not sure what happened. typing a document, next thing i know i can't type a
period, fields get highlighted etc. tried to close and reopen but click on
one file and all the files above it in the list highlight. would appreciate
any info on how to get back to normal. thanks.

Hi Chris,

It sounds like the Shift key on your keyboard is actually stuck. Try
swapping the keyboard with one from another computer.
