Office 2000 almost always requires the original CD to install
service packs and updates. Having the service packs on CD will
not change this. Service pack CDs for Office 2000 are no longer
available, but you had several years to get them before they were
discontinued earlier this year. The fact that you chose not to
order them when they were available is no fault of Microsoft's or
mine. The fact that you no longer have your Office 2000 CD is no
fault of Microsoft's or mine. Be angry at yourself if you must.
Office XP sometimes requires the original CD to install service
packs and updates, and sometimes doesn't. Having the service
packs on CD will not change this. In North America, you can
order service pack CDs for Office XP from
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/FX010383631033.aspx . In other
countries, contact your local Microsoft subsidiary.
You should not attempt to install Office service packs if you do
not have your Office CD. If you cannot provide your Office CD
when prompted by the service pack installation program, then the
installation will terminate prematurely, and some of your Office
applications may be left in a non-functional state.
