How do I get text to fit within the shape?

One would think that if you put a shape on a page and typed text into it, the
text would conform to the shape of the object. My experience with Visio and
Word is that text insists on flowing into a rectangle which either spills
over the shape boundaries or limits you to a very small inscribed rectangle
within the shape. Is there some setting I have overlooked for this? Surely I
can't be the only person who wants to fill up a shape with text.

Look at the shape's Texttransform section in the shapesheet.

Thanks for the link.
I am not a programmer nor have never revised a shapesheet since Visio 1.0.

Is there a shape available to search for and download that does this? If so
what stencil or what name do I search for?

I did a stencil/shape search from Visio 2003 for "text" and found auto sizing
rectangular shape; I'll use this one a lot!
