how do I get the filename in the footer to update automatically?

I'm using Word 2003 and inserting the path and filename into the footer of my
documents. I have put this into the Normal template so it happens
automatically on all documents I create. However, if I change the name of a
document or move it, the footer does not update automatically. I can do it
manually by pressing F9, but is there a way of making it happen automatically?
