how do I get the show desktop icon back to the task bar?

Please let me know how I can get the "show desktop icon" back to the quick
launch part of the task bar. I accidentally dragged it to the desk top and
when I drag it back to the task bar all it did was create a shortcut that
does not work after I deleted the icon that was accidentally dragged to the
desk top.

or try this:

You have deleted the Show Desktop shortcut from the Quick Launch Bar.

You should have a copy in the System folder, normally
C:\Windows\System or C:\Windows\System32
Just copy "Show Desktop.scf" to (Win9x)
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch
or for XP/Win2K
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Quick Launch

Hi Alan:

Thank you for your reply. I came across the article you referred to but I
also found a utility that does it under
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_showdesktop.htm.
After you download and unzipped the utiliy, you just click on the file and
the icon is restored. Thanks again for your early reply.
