Stressed With Word Document

I am typing a book in a Word Document. I have numerous photos included and
the book is over 700 pages long. Recently I added a few more pictures and
since then, I have had difficulty with the document. Now, when I open it,
all the icons are lit up on the screen, but after about 1 minute, all the
icons go grey, and I am no longer able to do anything to this document. I
can't edit, print, save, or even delete some of the images. I was thinking I
would delete some of the images and replace them with images in a lower
resolution, but it won't even let me do this. It converts the document to a
"Read Only" document and I am stressed about what to do. I would appreciate
anybody's advice or directions. Thank you.

Use File, Open, select the document and use Open and Repair (click on the
little down arrow as the side of the OPEN button to find the option).
