How do I go into Standby without closing Excel?

David, if I do what you state, I get the following error message.

Windows cannot go on standby because Microsoft Office documents or
application components are being accessed from the network. You must close
the open documents or exit the applications before you can put the computer
on standby.

I would like to go to Standby with EXCEL Open.

David, I have Windows XP ver 5.1.2000 and Excel 2003 ver 11.5612.6360.

Well I don't get any such problems with Windows XP and Excel 2003, using
Start/ Turn Off Computer/ Standby.

Perhaps your problem is tied up with the fact that you are using a network?
What sort of network setup do you have?

If you had been using Excel 2000, it would have looked like the problem
described at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/257456
