how do i import a *.pst from my work outlook to my home machine?

Alan Taylor

Both machines have XP Pro and Office XP. Exported pst from path to file on
work(business) machine, copied to cd, took home, copied to desktop, checked
for read only, and then tried to import it. I am told this version is not
compatible with this version of Personal Folders information service. Contact
you administrator. Earlier it told my this was not a valid *.pst file.

I just want to merge missing mail back into outlook after it all had to be
recoverd after the SP2 install crash, missing MFT, and resulting partition
loss. Was able to recove 90% of the mail and rebuilt it from a fresh install
of XP Pro and Office XP. I never lost any mail at work. It is almost a
duplicate because i get and save at both locations.

Thanks

1. Never import a .pst file - use File->Open to access the data and then
drag and drop to the appropriate folders in your current .pst file.

2. It sounds very much like one of the installations (work most likely) is
using Outlook 2003. They may have installed only Outlook 2003 from their
Exchange CALs.

Verify if your work installation is indeed Outlook 2003. If yes, then you
need to export your .pst file to a 97-2002 compatible .pst file. Copy that
to your CD and take it home.

After searching google.groups.com and finding no answer, Alan Taylor asked:
