How do I import excel data to begin a gantt chart in visio?

I am trying to use existing data in excel (task name, start and finish dates)
to generate a gantt chart in visio without having to manually re-key all of
the information - or at best to have to cut and paste each entry. When I
try, it seems as if visio is trying to do something with the data - but the
dialog box just sits there. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I
am using Office 2003.

First, thanks for the question.. What I did was opened the visio gantt tool
and let it create a blank plan for me. I then exported the plan as an xls
file so that I could examine the format that it wanted to see. I then
imported the file I had just created and used the follow-on menu prompts to
work with it.
kinda neat, You might want to compare your file against what it creates.
