How do I import indented task data in Excel format into Project?

My Excel spreadsheet has indented data (precursor to a WBS) that I would like
to import into Project to build a Gantt chart and use Project to
automatically create the WBS numbering scheme. How do I import the Excel
data while maintaining the indentation so as not to have to go in and
manually indent the summary level tasks from lower level activities?

Thanks for any help.

bigc,
Unfortunately Project will not "honor" indents from Excel in the manner
you need. You can however create a column in Excel that represents the
outline level. When that column is exported to Project as the Outline
Level field, Project will know what to do.

If entering the outline level into Excel is too much work, which might
be the case with a lot of task data, a VBA macro can always be used to
affect the transfer and at the same time "read" the indent in the Excel
task name and set the Outline Level field appropriately in Project.

Hope this helps.
