how do i indent by using the TAB key ?

Hi, I have a problem in indentation using the TAB key in the first line of
the paragraph. When I press the TAB key to indent the first line it indents
from the right not from the left eventhough I point at the left side not the
right. I tried the help instructions you provide but of no use actually. I am
so confused about this and i need a solution asap please. Sorry for the
inconvenience.

I've never seen anything like this. If you locate and rename the normal.dot
(normal.dotm if you are using Word 2007) template, with Word closed, and
then restart Word, does that fix things?
