How do I insert a downloadable document in Publisher?

How do I insert a file, such as MS Word or PDF file, in a Microsoft Publisher
2003 document that can be dowloaded from the Web Site?

This is the way I do it.

On the server create a folder, i.e., downloads (or other name of your
liking)

Best to use pdf files. Most all users have a pdf file reader (Acrobat
Reader)

Now you want your visitors to have your file on Apples.

So crate Apples.pdf and upload it into the downloads folder.

On your web page you have a statement i.e., Get my report on Apples here.

With the mouse gather the word here then go to Insert, Hyperlink and write
the following in the box

/downloads/Apples.pdf

OK and save your website.

Upload the new website files.

Good luck,

Hello Don,
Thank you for your kind valuable assistance. I followed your procedures but
it does not work unless I "right" click with the mouse on the hyperlink and
then I select 'Save Target As' from the short menu that appear when I click
the mouse right button.
I just wish it worked like the other downloadable files on the Net where we
click on the link with the '"left" button of the mouse and it automatically
show a dialogue box asking to open or save the file.
Thank you anyway for your reply.
Kind regards,
Maria

Do you have a pdf reader installed on your computer? You'll need one to open
pdf files.

What program do you use to create pdf files?

I have Adobe Reader 7 installed on my computer. And I created the PDF file
using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.
The same has happenned with MS Word Files. So, I think it has to do with
adjusting the Publisher itself.

I'm starting to suspect it's a security setting issue. You might look
there.
Do you have the same problem when clicking on pdf files from other sites?

Maria,

Excuse me for jumping in here, but if the viewer has the Adobe reader
installed, then they also have a plugin installed into their browser, which
will automatically load the document, and bypass the open or save dialog.
The same is true of Word. Besides the right click option you have
discovered, about the only other thing you can do is zip the files, and then
you will get the open or save dialog.
