How do I insert a .PCX graphic into Word 2003?

R

Richard

I'm new to Word 2003. In using Word 97, I had no problems in usng .PCX
graphics. They don't seem to work in Word 2003. I have read the only
postings found in "search", have added the file PCXImp32.FLT to the "Program
Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\GRPHFLT\" folder. I have set
Tools=>Optons=>General [x] Confirm Conversions at Open. I still can't insert
..PCX graphics files into a word table.

I've noticed that you just don't see a lot of .pcx graphics like you used
to. Any chance you have a graphics program that you could use to convert
them to a format that Word will readily accept?

(I'm sure someone else can help you with the converter but I'm just giving
you another option.)

www.irfanview.com can open .pcx files, you then can convert it to a format Word can
use.
It is a free application, get the plug-ins too, some images need the plug-ins.

I appreciate the two replies to my questin, reguarding converstion to a
different graphics format.

I have written 8 volumes (100 to 200+ pages in length) relating to Thai
Philately (collecting Thai postage stamps) that are full of .PCX graphics. I
can open the documents in Word 2003, but when I need to change an
illustration, it won't accept a new .PCX file. I don't want to convert all
of the old files to another format so they can be used in Word 2003. I would
be easier to revert to Word 97.

My question again. Is there any way to insert a .PCX graphics in Word 2003?

My 2003 Word will insert .pcx images. Could be your filter is corrupt, rename the
PCXImp32.FLT to PCXImp32.old and drag a new instance from your setup disk.
I do not have "confirm conversion at Open" checked in Word's options.

Mary,
I appreciate your reply. Can you tell me how you got the PCXImp32.FLT file
into your computer? I am using a new computer. Office 2003 was the original
installation (It was not installed over an old version of Office). There was
no PCXImp32.FLT file in Program Files---etc when I first looked. I copied the
file from an old computer, 1st from Word 97, and 2nd from Word 2000. Neither
works (Word 2000 will install PCX files). Any more ideas? Would it help to
install Office 97 or 2000 first, then install Office 2003? I am very lost
here.
