How do I Insert an Item into an email?

In Outlook while writing an email I do not see the option "item" under
"Insert". On my business laptop with XP Office Professional edition 2003 I
can do this option. I cannot do it with my personal laptop with Office Basic
edition 2003 (XP Media Edition). Neither is the option "Signature" under
"Insert" available. Is it a setting or is it the version?

Are you using Word as your e-mail editor on the machine that doesn't work?
Try disabling that (tools, options, mail format) and test.

It's still available in 2003 - where depends on your mail format. Try the
drop down arrow beside the Options button if it's not on the Insert toolbar.

That maybe the problem. I am out of town on business but when I get home I
will check into that. This computer is NOT setup as Word as the e-mail
editor and it functions correctly!

It's not in the same place as it is when you Insert Item in a Task, Meeting
or Contact when you do it in email unless you are in Rich Text format :(
