Open the header and footer pane by selecting Headers and Footers from the
View menu and with the cursor in the header or footer at the position where
you want the page number to appear, press the # button on the Header and
Footer Toolbar or from the Insert Autotext pulldown on that toolbar, click
on Page X of Y.
If you press Alt + F9 to toggle on the display of field codes, you will then
see that the former of these has inserted a { Page } field and that the
latter inserts "Page { Page } of { Numpages }
If you already have something like this in your document, what you need to
do is update the fields in the document. That is normally done when the
document is printed or you use Print Preview, or you can do it manually by
using Ctrl+A to select everything and then use F9 to update the fields.
