How do I install additional Project Server CALs?

We have been using Project Server 2003 for the last few months and recently
purchased additional Client Access Licenses. Where are these installed on
the Project Server?

I do not believe there is anywhere in Project Server 2003 that you actually
install CAL's. Instead, here's what you do:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - About Microsoft Office Project Server 2003
3. Examine the number of required CAL's calculated by the system
4. From this number, subtract the number of Microsoft Project Professional
users and the number of equipment resources

You subtract the number of Microsoft Project Professional users because one
CAL is included with each copy of the software. You subtract the number of
equipment resources because an equipment resource can never log into Project
Server even though it has a user account in PWA.

For example, the About Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 page says that I
need 150 CAL's. However, I have 20 project managers using Microsoft Project
Professional and 5 equipment resources in the Enterprise Resource Pool.
Therefore, the number of CAL's I actually need is:

150 - (20 + 5) = 150 - 25 = 125

If I have 125 CAL's or more, I am in compliance with the licensing agreement
with Microsoft. If I have less than 125 CALs', I need to purchase more.
Refer to the following link for more information:

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response. I followed your suggestion and looked at the
About Project Server 2003 page. There is no reference to CAL at all, only
"Number of Project Server Users." I believe this is based on the number of
active users I have configured in Project. I had already ordered additional
CAL licenses and received a new Office code from our reseller.....I am just
not sure what to do with it!

It sounds like you are now in compliance with the number of CAL's needed for
Project Server. I'm not aware that you have to do anything with the Office
code from your reseller. You might ask your reseller what you are supposed
to do with it, if anything. Hope this helps.
