How do I install Pcximp32.flt?

P

PROFSCHILER

I want to load pcx files into PowerPoint. I would also like to see them as
thumbnails in Windows Explorer. The correct filter is apparently
pcximp32.flt, but I cannot find how or where to install it, either in
PowerPoint or in Windows Explorer.

What version of PowerPoint are we talking about? The PCX filter is apparently
not included with Office 2003. However, if you have a copy of the file, it
would go in \Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt\. You would
also need a Registry change. See
http://answers.tveasy.co.uk/m.p.o.misc/RP-filter-fO2.htm. Do a google search on
pcximp32.flt and you can find further information.

Sonia,

Thanks for your response. The program is part of Office XP. It indicates
PowerPoint 2002 SP3. I have a copy of pcximp32.flt in \Program Files\Common
Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt\. But it doesn't seem attached to PowerPoint
or to Windows Explorer. I guess I will go to the site you suggest to find
out how to do registry changes. Isn't there an method internal to PowerPoint
which would install the filter? (But it's true, I searched help several
times and couldn't find one.)

In any case, thanks for your help.

Regards,

Marc

Before you fiddle with the Registry, are you trying to insert a PCX file in
PowerPoint 2002? What happens when you do this? In my version of PowerPoint
2002 *.pcx is listed as a valid file extension for inserted pictures and I'm
able to browse to and insert a *.pcx file.

Well, that's interesting. I cannot browse the pcx files (they don't show as
thumbnails they just have a pcx icon) from within PowerPoint or Windows
Explorer. But when I pick one (blind) and open it, PowerPoint will load it.
It's annoying, but not fatal. I just need to remember which image is which.
If there's a way to display them let me know, but I can proceed with this
method. But once again, thanks for your help.

Regards,

Marc

If the file contains no preview data you won't see more than an enlarged PCX
icon.
