How do I install SP3 for Office 2000?

I can't get SP3 for Office 2000 Professional installed. I use XPhome
edition. I read all the previous posts re: this problem and tried the
various suggestions. When I tried to rename the files described in the
instructions, I renamed 2 files. My computer did not have file
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office|1033\acwztool.mde

I am so sorry I ever upgraded to WindowsXP. I've had one problem after
another since I did it, last June. I would really appreciate some help from
anyone who can help me.

Hi, Wordsmith52,

You don't mention what symptoms you are having trying to install SP3. Are
you getting an error message?

The last time I tried to use the automatic update & installer it told me I
neede SP3. At the end of the process it just said the installation was
unsuccessful. Tonight I tried again and used the Office Autopmatic Update &
Installation link to check which items I needed. I agreed with the licensing
agreements and it went through the process of downloading and installing 6
security patches. At the end I get the message that installation was
unsuccessful for the following security patches:
KB826292 (Access 2000), KB873380 (Office 2000), KB8733772 (Excel 2000),
KB895333 (Word 2000), and Outlook 2000 Update dated 12/18/2002. Is this the
information you need?

Thanks for your help.

Well, let's see if we can figure it out.

Did SP3 install in this second attempt? It sounds like it didn't, because
the later patches can't be installed. This article tells you what files are
updated by SP3, so you can double-check your system to see if these files
have been updated.

If you go to Office Update again and run the automatic detection, does it
present those five security patches again? Does it present SP3 as needing
to be installed?

Have you tried all the steps in this article:

How to troubleshoot failures updating your Office installation from the
Office Update Web site:

If not, you probably should. One thing to try would be repairing Office,
especially if you did a Windows upgrade on top of an existing Office 2000
installation.

Also, you might try to download and install the updates from here, in order
of the date when they were released:
