How do I keep a list of "exercises"?

I was asked to write a training manual for some software.
I am using Word 2002 on Win XP.
I would like to insert small exercises for the user to do in varous places
in the manual. What is not clear to me is if I am able to do this and still
Generate a table of Exercises (like a table of Contents, only for exercises).

In the end, the document should have a standard TOC that shows the chapters,
some subitems etc, followed by a table of Figures follwed by a table of
Exercises.

Any suggestions on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

As long as what you want to appear in your Table has a unique paragraph
style you can create a TOC for entries in that paragraph style. For
autonumbering your exercises you can either create a caption label of your
choice or use a SEQ field (which amounts to much the same), then format the
entry in a unique style of your choosiung - here Exercise. Thus you can
create TOC for the headings, your figures and your exercises by choosing the
appropriate styles thus

{ TOC \o "1-3" \h \z \u } - main TOC for heading styles 1 - 3
{ TOC \h \z \t "Exercise,1" } - table of exercises
{ TOC \h \z \t "Caption,1" } - table of captions

The table generator is mnerely a shortcut to creating the required TOC
fields and may or may not be as useful as creating the fields manually. It
depends on which you are happier using.

Thanks Graham, that makes sense....didn't know I could do that with the TOC
field.
I'll try it and if I have any issues, I'll post again :)

Thanks again
