Is the message format HTML? (Contrary to Bob's belief, images can be
embedded in HTML as well as RTF).
Are you scanning outgoing mail with a virus scanner?
Is it an attachment as soon as you open the new message form?
Note that its not unusual for embedded images to appear as attachments until
the message is viewed and the image rendered within the message.
