How do I keep column alignment in a saved document?

I have created a document with 5 columns. All the words line up correctly. I save the document and everything looks just fine. Then, later, I open the document and find that the columns have a different alignment. Nothing I know to try will re-align the columns. While I know how to work around this using a table, I'd like to learn how to accomplish the task using columns. Any ideas?

It sounds to me as though you have "Automatically update styles" set on your
Template.

Go to Tools>Templates and Add-ins>Attach and make sure that "Automatically
update" is not checked.

Come back if it wasn't.

This is not a good use for Columns. You are better off using a table, or at
least setting tabs, if you want things to line up accurately.

Cheers
