How do I keep pictures displayed in Word 2003?

When I include pictures in a document they don't always display. Sometimes
just the box outline displays. It will toggle back and forth between
displayed and not displayed. It prints fine, but makes it really hard to
work with the image itself.

Are you working in view set to normal mode or print layout mode. Have you
converted some of the pictures into a graphics object by specifying some sort
of wrapping. If you play around with these it may show you what is happening
