How do I keep the font from changing when I backspace?

When I am composing a new message, or replying to one I have received in
Outlook 2003, the font size changes when I backspace. I have gone into
Tools/Options/Options/Mail Format/fonts and changed the font there, but the
problem continues. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I, too, have had this problem for years and no one can seem to be able to
tell me how to fix it.

It's beyond annoying!

How DOES one fix this seemingly "EXTRA FEATURE"?
