How do I link to a new page when creating website in MS Publisher

B

Barnum

I am currently using MS Publisher (trial), and working on website. I have
created two separate pages so far...the first or opening page, and the second
or the "about us" page. How do I connect the second to the first. I have
highlighted a word (enter) and clicked on insert hyperlink, then highlighted
the second page and hit okay. Nothing happens. I click on enter, and nada?
Likewise when I view them as webpage still nothing.

Am I doing this all wrong? I had hoped to do all my individual pages first,
and then connect with hyperlinks to finish it. Happy with the layout of
first two pages, but very frustrated now because I don't know how to go from
one to the other. Sorry...I am a newbie.

Although you can build a website with multiple Publisher files, it is
probably better to build all the pages in one Pub file, at least for a
basic, small site. When you do it all within one Pub file you can use the
automatic navbar wizard to build your navigation system between the pages.

I would recommend that you open your home page file, add a page, and then
open your other Pub file that you built for the second page, and copy and
paste the design elements into the first file.

Guess I do not understand the program. Can't I create a main page (first
page) and link it to another? This is for a website I am building, not one
that is up and running. Nothing seems to answer this question. I have two
pages so far, and I can bring each up individually. How do I go from page
one to page two? I want to be able to click on the word "enter" and have the
second page open, and after that, the same thing, etc..

I built a website using the Yahoo website builder, and found that at least
easy to understand. Was hoping Publisher was even easier, but perhaps not.
Every thing I read tells me how to add pages to my website as though it were
up and running...it's not.

Again, I am not that PC literate, and may need to go back to Yahoo
program...any help would be appreciated.

You should probably stop asking your question here and should start
asking it in:

As I said, you can build a site with multiple Publisher files, but it will
just complicate things for you. It will be much easier if you just combine
the two Pub files you already have made into one.

Just open the home page publisher file that you already made. If you did not
include a navigation bar originally, go to Insert > Navigation Bar > Click
New to open the Design Gallery dialog box, click the navigation bar that you
want, and then click Insert Object. Now you have a navbar on that page. You
could skip this step if you already have a navbar on the page, and go to
Insert > Page. You can now choose a new About Us page or note at the bottom
of that dialog the option to Add hyperlink to navigation bar. Make sure that
is checked. If you chose to insert a new About Us page, Publisher will
insert a new About Us page with a link to that page in the navbar.
Alternatively, click on "more" at the bottom of that insert dialog. That
gives you other options. Once you have inserted a second page, go to File >
Open and browse to where you saved your other Publisher file that you
created for your About us page. Copy and paste from that page to your new
About Us page in your main file. Then from that point on, just add pages to
that original Publisher file, and add navbar links each time you add a page.
Don't create seperate files for seperate pages.

Read the link to how to add a page again. This time understand that the
article is talking about adding a page to your web publication...you Pub
file...and perhaps it will make more sense to you. If it doesn't then
perhaps you would be happier with Yahoo.

Could my problem be because I am not using a template, and instead went with
an "open" layout?

What problem? It doesn't matter whether you are using an "open" layout or
not, and by that I guess you mean that you started with a blank web page.
Although if you don't start with some of the templates you are limited in
what type of pages you can insert, as described in the Add a page article.
If you read the directions on how to insert a navbar and how to combine the
two files, it shouldn't make any difference. It is really pretty
straightforward... Perhaps you need to go back and read those articles again
and the step by step directions I gave you. Sometimes I have to read things
many times before it sinks into my head...

Now so grumpy won't hurt himself complaining about this Publisher topic
being off topic here, please post any further questions to the web group. In
fact it wouldn't hurt you to read a few weeks of posts in the web group and
learn a bit more about the subject.

Yes If you do not use one of the WEB templates then you will not see the
web specific options in many places
Try using a web template and deleting what you do not need.

It is better to ask WEB questions in
microsoft.public.publisher.webdesign.
