How do I link together breakdown of visio charts into larger one?

I am working off of a "master" chart where all the information is compiled
together. I have a breakdown of each section, all as separate visio
documents. Is there a way that I can link them together, so when I change
something in one, the same information that I change is also changed
everywhere else? I have tried to create a master shortcut to link the
information together, but if I try to change it in the "master" chart, the
same information does not change.

v2007 has data linking so that if it is changed in a data record, any shape
that is linked to the record is also updated.
