how do i make a genogram using word?

i need to make a family tree and i want to use word. I tried using the auto
shapes but dont know how to use them correctly to where i can type who the
person is above each shape and the age inside the circle or square.

Trying to use Word for this purpose is going to be extremely frustrating;
you'll save yourself a lot of headaches by using either a real genealogy
program (e.g., Family Tree Maker) or something with better graphics tools
(Viso, PowerPoint).

If you insist on using Word, try Insert > Diagram > Organization Chart
combined with text boxes or callouts from the Drawing toolbar.

If editting of the genogram after posting is not necessary, you can save the
diagram in another standard graphic format or as a PDF and post that.
