How do I make a unprotected copy of a protected Word document?

I am attempting to use a protected form a former employee (now retired)
created and I need to change the logo, name of company, and some other
standard lines. When I attempt to unprotect the Word document which has been
set up as a form, and protected, I am prompted for a password I do not have.
I tried a File Save As and looking into Tools but it still requires a
password. How can I make an unprotected copy of the Word document so I can
modify it? To recreate the form from scratch would take several hours.

Other than Bob I's suggestion, you would have to recreate the form from
scratch. There is no way to retrieve the information into another Word
document other than possibly printing it and then doing an optical character
recognition scan on the words and then reformatting into the new Word
document. Of course there are password "busters" out there but I haven't
had to use any so I don't know how well they would work.

In the future, any forms, documents, files, computer or network password
should be submitted to a trusted responsible person within the company to
store those passwords for future use.

The other answers you got would be correct if the document requires a password
to open or edit. Protection for forms uses a different mechanism, which is very
easy to bypass.

Open a new blank document. Use Insert > File in Word 2003 or earlier, or use
Insert > Object > Text From File in Word 2007. Point to the protected form and
click Insert. The result will be an unprotected form.

Jay, good to know. It does work and does leave the form fields available.
Only thing to be concerned about is if there is special margins or
orientation different than the new document default. Easily corrected once
inserted however. Thanks for posting. We all learn something every day.
