how do I make letters dark at top and lighter in color at bottom

I am creating letterhead in publisher. I want to make initials of my
corperation with the name superimposed on top. I want the initials to be
faded (Darker at the top and lighter at the bottom). Is this possible?

If you simply want a gradient, use WordArt, fill effects.

Or create your initials in WordArt, fill with the dark color, copy/paste special
as a Metafile. Fill the WordArt again with the light color, copy/paste special
as a Metafile. Use the crop tool to divide, align.
