How Do I Make Multiple Text Selections?

Hi,

I want to select pieces of text for instance in different text boxes and I'm wondering how I can do this.

I know in Word if you hold the command key you can make multiple text selections, and you can select multiple objects in Powerpoint in the same manner. However when I try to do this on text im Powerpoint the initial selection is lost when I click to select the next word.

I need to apply formatting (e.g. subscripting) to different words and it's a pain having to do this to each word individually.

PPT is an object-oriented environment. You can select multiple *objects* but
you can't simultaneously select individual components within multiple
objects... Actually, Word is the same -- create 2 text boxes or Shapes
containing test & try to multi-select pieces within each. You'll meet with
the same end, whereas the flow of main content where you *can* select
non-contiguous passages is all within the "same container".

Since PPT doesn't support Styles you might consider using the Format Painter
or Command+Y (Repeat) combined with the Find feature.

And a couple of other twists on the painter; these have worked since Bill was a
pup in the Win version, which probably inherited them from the original Mac PPT.

- Doubleclick the format painter instead of just clicking it. That'll keep it
active until you click it again or press ESC. You can then apply the same
formatting to as many bits of text as you like w/o having to "go back to the
well" and pick up the formatting you want from the original each time.

- Customize the Pick Up Object Style and Apply Object Style (may appear
incorrectly labeled as "Apply to defaults") buttons onto any convenient
toolbar/whatever. Once you've picked up a style using this tool, it stays
"loaded". You can keep applying it whenever you feel the urge, or at least for
the duration of the PPT session, or until you pick up a new style.

Thank you for your replies. I'm more used to the Windows versions so I was quite puzzled by this but double clicking the format painter works nicely.

I believe that's something new in 2007... can't be done in 2003 & hasn't
made it to the Mac version.
