How do I make the macro work?

D

DaddyUnit

After a few hours of searching I unlocked the mystery of how to reveal the
developer tab, but now when I try to record a macro nothing happens.

Here's what I've tried.

Open a new word document.
Click the "Macro" button on the bottom border of the window frame.
Nothing happens.

Open a new word document
Click the Developer tab
Click the "Macros" icon
Note that the "Create" button is grayed out
Scream expletives at the keyboard

Click the "Macro Security" icon
Note that "Disable all macros with notification" radio button is selected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is your document protected in some way. It is only with a document
protected (in my case for Filling in forms) that I can replicate what you
are seeing.

I don't think so. I'm starting out with a brand new document...are new
documents protected somehow by default?

Close Word
Re-open Word from the start Menu icon, holding the CTRL key. You should get
a prompt about starting in safe mode. Click Yes.
Open a new blank document
Right click the status bar at the bottom of the window and check the box
against macro recording. Click the macro recorder icon on the status bar. Do
you get a request for a macro name?
If you do, see http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm then
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm.

if you don't then between the two sets of instructions repair Office from
the Windows add or remove programs applet.

Hey, thanks for your help. Unfortunately I'm not the sharpest crayon in the
box here and I can't figure out your instruction for opening Word in the safe
mode.

When I hold the CTRL key while clicking Word from the start menu I simply
get a context menu that gives me the following options:

Open
TortoiseSVN (I know...scary isn't it?)
Pin to Start Menu
Add to Quick Launch
Send To
Copy
Remove from this List
Rename
Properties

So I'm pretty sure I'm doing the wrong thing.

Sounds like you might be clicking with the Right mouse button rather than
the Left.
