I bought a new Dell Laptop and the office basic edition 2003 software cd with
it but when I type in the product key it pops up the error message that my
product key is invalid? I have double and tripple checked the number and it
is correct? I tried to contact microsoft but they want money to answer my
question so I hope someone out there can help me. Sorry I am not the most up
on all the IT stuff. Thanks

It's really tough to try and help without knowing the product key, but I'll
try.

The product key should look like a series of letters/numbers separated by
dashes. Is this what you have?
When the prompt comes up, does it have a series of empty textboxes that you
type each letters/number in (without the dashes)?

If this is what you are doing and I assume that you purchased this CD with
your DELL Labtop from DELL, they should assist you since Office Basic
Edition 2003 you bought is considered an OEM version and it is there
responsibility to assist.

dangerousgirl,

DO NOT post your product key here! If you do, then every shmuck
with a bootleg copy of Office 2003 will try to use it to activate
their illegal software, and your product key will never work for
you again.

Did you find the product key on a label attached to the bottom of
your Dell laptop? If yes, then that is the product key for
Windows, not for Office.
