How do I mark "*" an answer and hide it within formatting marks?

I am making a multiple choice test, would like to mark the answer with an *
(asterisk) and would like to hide it within the formatting marks. Meaning
when I hide the formatting marks, the asterisk hides too and all the answers
are aligned to the margins.

Mark each one as Hidden (Ctrl-Shift-H). Presumably you are not handing
out Word documents to the students who will take the text, since they
can easily choose Show Hidden Text or Show Non-Printing Characters!

Any method you use, if contained within the document, will be freely
available for the person tested to reveal, thus negating the point of the
test for those who have any knowledge of Word. If the aim is to enable you
to quickly mark the test there are better methods to collate the results
eg - http://www.gmayor.com/ExtractDataFromForms.htm
and
http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Extract_Form_Data.htm

If you want to conditionally display data see -
http://www.gmayor.com/SelectFile.htm and maybe
http://www.gmayor.com/word_vba_examples.htm
