how do I merge two graphs in excel?

I have created graphs in a worksheet on excel 2003 and I want to merge them
all onto one graph - there are 5 in total, each shows a range of job types on
the X axis and the number of jobs on the Y axis. I feel as though I am
missing something fundamental either in the way I have entered the data on
the spreadsheet or missed something obvious on the help pages.Everything I
have tried so far has either resulted in the data not transferring from one
chart to the other or the line graph transferring but not the data labels.
Any advice very much appreciated

I cannot help with merging existing charts. But you can have a single chart
with data from various regions of a worksheet.
1) In A1:A5 enter 1,2,3,4,5 and in B1:B5 enter 6,7,8,9,10
2) In D1:E1 enter some text (x and y will do) In D2:D4 enter 5.5, 6.5, 7.5
and in E2:E4 enter 12,13,14
3) Make an XY chart from A1:B5
4) Select D1:E4, and Copy
5) Click the chart and use Edit | Paste Special; specify New Series with
x-values in left column and header at top; click OK
Now the chart has two data series
Any help?
best wishes

Thanks Bernard,
That did help a little, am still having trouble with getting the chart to
show the data along the x axis, e.g. categories a,b,c,d. The chart is
plotting the info but it is only showing the categories for the first data
series.
Any ideas?
