How do I merge two large Publisher files (not mail merge)?

I am using Version 2007 of Microsoft Publisher but can't find how to merge
two publisher files (.pub) together. You can insert WORD docs or a text file
but doesn't seem to allow inserting another .pub file. I have found two
options (both are not very good): 1) add as a text file; which messes up all
the formating so every page has to be reformated; 2) copy & paste. I'm
talking about 500-600 pages here! Had a large project so had a couple of
people to help so I have three files to merge. HELP please!!!!
I just can't believe there is no option to insert another .pub file!!!!!
Thanks
Sharon

Mary,
I went to the link below a day or two after you send me the message. I
printed out the doc. but didn't get a chance to try it out. When I did, I
noticed that it had a link to 'how to create a one item data base in
Publisher', so I didn't print that. When I went back there today, the page
written by you is no longer there; but there's a link to 'PubCat' document.
Tried that but had no luck. Am, I missing something that I can't get back to
your original document so I can print out the 'create one item..'
instructions? I really want to get these files merged and have really run
into roadblocks. Thanks for any help.

Sharon, Ed's PubCat is new and it does work. It is less complicated than what I
had on the original page. You just have to be certain you type the path
correctly. When I used it I put the documents I wanted to combine in a folder
whose path was easy to type without errors. My typing skills are not the best.

If you had printed what I had before the only step you are missing is the
database. Just create a database with only one entry. This can be a Publisher
list, Word, Access, Excel and many others.

Alternatively, you can put PubCat in the folder containing both files,
and leave off the path completely. Provided the filename has no spaces
(or is enclosed within spaces), then PubCat will automagically add the
path for you.

Hi,
I must be doing something wrong with the PubCat. I unziped & then clicked on
the PubCat.exe and a DOS looking screen comes up but immediately goes away.
So I brought up DOS and tried typing in the command like is in the readme
file but it gave me an error. What am I doing wrong??
Thanks for your help & patience.

That depends on the command you're typing in.

You do have to have both documents closed before trying to work with them.

PubCat sounds like a lifesaver for us as we have several large publisher
files that we need to combine. But I must be doing something wrong also.
I'm getting the error 'Could not load file or assembly
'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Publisher, Version=12.0.0.0' 'The system cannot
find the file specified.' Running gacutil /l lists
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Publisher Version 11.0.0.0. I have MS Office 2003
installed, do I need version 2007?

It definitely works with Publisher 2007; I haven't tested it with
Publisher 2003. I'm guessing currently it does; as soon as I can get at
a machine with only Publisher 2003 installed (probably a VM) I'll test
and try and figure stuff out.

*looks confused*

(In case your message store doesn't have the header, Glen's message was
in reply to a thread from October regarding joining two Publisher files.
I don't have the message bodies any more, so can't tell you any more
than that.)

All I saw was Glen's comment that Pubcat worked. You created that, didn't
you?

I did. I also misinterpreted your message :)

If you want to look at the thread it was in response to, it was entitled
"How do I merge two large Publisher files (not mail merge)?", the OP was
Sharon on 2007-08-28.
