How do I modify the OpenFileDialog...

I'm looking for a way to tap into and modify both panes of the
OpenFileDialog (specifically in Word and Excel) including adding an item
(icon & text) to the left menu (the one with "History", "My Documents", "My
Desktop" .).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?
