How do I not get a duplication document on word?

Hi I am having microsoft word problems? When I try and open a new document on
the computer, I get a replication of my journal article I wrote. When I click
on microsoft word, my journal article pops up. How can I get a blank document
without having to highlight it all and delete it? I just do not understand
why my journal article keeps popping up.
