How do I open a complete new one note

I am trying to open multiple one note databases, 1 for each member of the
family to organise themselves. How do I do this. All I can do is open new
side notes, projects, insert delete pages etc.

one note does not use a database, it actually uses a folder My Notebook.
you can achive this effect multiple ways.
1. Create multiple users on your computer, and let each member set up their
own notebook.
2. Set up a seperate Notebook folder for each user, then to switch users,
goto tools > options > Open & Save... then chage the my notebook folder. to
the next users notebook.

Untill a SP2 of onenote (I assume) there won't be any way to do this.

I have no idea what will or will not be in SP2 (or even if MS will go
back to their normal policy of "bug fixes only in an SP"), but I can't
imagine that they would go the non-standard route of multiple-user
support beyond what is already there.

Every other application feeds from the user profile concept. James'
(shall I call you James or Flibber?) suggestion is the best one - use
Window's built-in user profile features to create separate settings for
all programs and there then is no conflict between settings nor any need
to continually open and close files in OneNote.
