how do i open a document, that has alot of scrambles letters in i

cannot open the document with out seeing scrambles letters, and I also cannot
keep the document in DOC, what am I doing wrong

It would help if you explained the problem more accurately. What sort of
document are you trying to open in what Word version? What do you mean by
'scrambles letters'? What do you mean by 'cannot keep the document in DOC'?
These terms are meaningless without a common reference.
