How do I open a "locked" databases (.ldb) or change the type to .mdb? Our
company recently installed a completely new server and computer network
system during which all of our files were moved from the old server to the
new one. Prior to the move, my access database was an .mdb; now it is listed
as .ldb. What happened and how do I get it open?

An .ldb file *is not a locked database*.

It's a "locking file" which keeps track of who is currently using the
database of the same name.

It's possible that somebody moved the .ldb file connected to your
database in addition to (or instead of...! :-{( ) the actual
database. How big is it? Might the database have been open at the time
of the move (if so, you're likely in real trouble!)

I sure hope the old server is still available, or at least a current
backup!

Are you serious? I hope that you still have some sort of access to the old
server: ldb are not database files but lock files.

When you open a MDB file, a lock file with the same name but with the suffix
..LDB is created. Usually (but not always), this lock file is automatically
destroyed when the last user close its link to the MDB file. It's also a
customery procedure to manually erase this ldb file when you have some sort
of problem with a MDB file opened in multi-user mode that has not been
properly closed.

When moving to a new server, the usual procedure is to copy only the MDB
files and never the LDB files because the laters are totally useless when
copied to a different machine and that only the MDB files contains the real
database information.

I hope for you that you still can get a copy of your mdb files from the old
server because at the present time, you have absolutely nothing in your
hands.
