how do I open a .wps file in Micrsoft word

I have been emailed some files in .wps format and I am running Office 2000.
Can someone pls let me know how to open them?

If these are Microsoft Works word processor files, then probably
the easiest thing for you to do is ask the sender to save the
files as Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) files and send
those to you instead. Alternatively, if you know what version of
Works was used to create the .wps files, then you may be able to
install a text converter into Word that will allow you to open
the .wps files in Word, but there are different converters for
different Works versions.
