How do I open an old Publisher file in a newer version?

We recently updated to Office 2003 and I have an old file on disc from an
older version of Publisher. Any reason why an old file wouldn't
automatically update to the newer version? By the way, I have opened it
before on this same computer so I know there has to be a way to do it. I
don't remember doing anything special to open it before.

Copy it to your hard drive and try again. Publisher does not do well with removable
media. You may have to clear the "read only" check box.
If it still will not open it maybe your Norton anti-virus software. Disable "script
blocking" and in Norton options, misc., disable Office Plug In.
