Word can't open native-format .lwp files. Ask the sender to save
the file as a Word (.doc) or Rich Text Format (.rtf) file and
send that to you.

lwp is Lotus WordPro.
You need Lotus SmartSuite(1) or the standalone Lotus WordPro to open
lwp files.

Ask the sender to convert it to plain text (if formatting is not
important) or html or pdf (using CutePDF or some other free/gratis pdf
printer) if you don't need to edit the document, or rtf if you do need
to edit it.

(1) Imho Lotus SmartSuite is superior to MS Office or OpenOffice on
some points, but it's a problem of too little, too late. I have a lot
of good memories of SmartSuite. Where did all that time go...
