In "theory" they should display in just about anything.
.bmp is the basic display medium in a GUI in any system I can think of.
Example: all icons / toolbar icons in all "windows" programs, IE, FP, OE, Office etc
are actually displayed in .bmp format.
Even the animations that display in pop up dialogs when moving / deleting files,
sending / receiving email animations are .bmp frames in avi files.

Actually, .bmp files can be displayed on the web, IE has done this for years. The big
problem with bmp files is they are uncompressed , unlike jpeg's which are a compressed file
format, and end up being hugely inflated files.
.bmp's won't display on the web.
create the stars right on a jpg...simplest way. then make the stars
hotspots.
