how do I pasword protect the first page to a website in Frtpge 200

I am a novice and have received different ways - none ever have the complete
details on how this can be done. some say to paste a new set of htlm into teh
page and have caused it to mnot run at all.

If you have FrontPage extensions, and your host allows unique permissions,
see method 2 described in
http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/tests/protect-page/Protected-Folder.aspx
Apply this to the root folder of your website - the folder with your home
page. The same password and userid will be used for all users. Don't
forget to keep your own UserId and Password active to allow you to edit the
site.

Method 1 (applying permissions to the server file system) on that page can
also be used, but you may lose some access to the website with FrontPage -
in particular, forms may fail.
Any other method requires server side scripting which must be supported by
your host.
